I like to code and I do it a lot. I want to build software to save the planet. Passionate polyglot programmer, generalist with specialties. Code reviewer, unit tester, driver of change. I get things done.

I make free Android apps such as Programming Quiz, websites such as bashoneliners.com, and other open source stuff. I wrote a book on Bazaar Version Control, and an article on shell tips & tricks for Linux Journal.

I blog, tweet (@janosgyerik), and post "pro tips" on CoderWall.

Instead of read address, try this: read -d $'\n' address and let me know if it worked

comment How to update MySQL Server, MySQL Client and phpMyAdmin to the latest stable versions on my local machine running on 64-bit Ubuntu 12.04 LTS?
@FuzzyToothpaste thank you, but that's not what I meant. You wrote that the next 3 years are to give server owners time to upgrade to 14.04, but in 2 years 14.04 will become unsupported. This doesn't add up. Wouldn't it make more sense to target 15.04 instead? There must be an official documentation that explains the recommended upgrade path from LTS releases.

@FuzzyToothpaste do you have a link that explains that upgrade path?
