Humans are not efficient. Not because we are not smart, or not because we are not able to, but because we do not work toward the same goal. Because we set ourselves rules to ultimately prevent collaborative efforts. Because we envy power and praise fame.

Collaborative (i.e. not directed) efforts will always bring higher results than any set of rules. Where anyone can benefit from the work of each other. Rules are guidelines, not boundaries. The key here is common sense and the sum of small things toward a same goal by many, where the effort aims toward the community and not one particular self. This is not communism, this is not socialism, as there is no saying on property or rights, therefore credits go where it belongs. But this is just called being wise.

@gertvdijk the "warned me that the key is locked" part refers to Ubuntu popping up the modal dialog. ... but, while writing this comment, I realized that ssh-keygen did asked me for a passphrase. Entering that passphrase into the dialog solve it. I don't recall doing that for the RSA keys I generated for Github... Must be Monday.

comment How to start a VM on boot, and shutdown on VM stop?
Very detailed answer! Thank you, I will start from there! But, from what I can read, it looks fine to me. I'll add the VBoxControl.exe guestproperty set RUNNING as a Windows scheduled task (on shutdown), as an admin. As for step 5, I didn't play much with LXDE, and the machine is already setup to auto-logon. Other than that, thanks!

For me, sudo ntpd -gq does not exit! I'm on 14.10 and I have to CTRL+C to continue... or how long is it supposed to take?

comment Wireshark is not able to capture on any of the interfaces
I had to run sudo setcap ... for the command to work. Otherwise, wireshark can now be loaded as a normal user for me.

comment Running .Net 4.0 application with Wine
Since I don't use Wine much, I figured I would set WINEARCH in my .bashrc script directly, then wiped ~/.wine completely and proceeded to winetricks dotnet40. It works now. Thanks!

comment How to start a VM on boot, and shutdown on VM stop?
The cronjob is interesting. However, what if something happens and the computer powers down before the check_vms_and_shutdown.sh script is scheduled? (i.e. the employee manually shuts down the computer before it executes) Then, will it add check_vms_and_shutdown.sh again on next boot?
