comment I am unable to set nfs block size to greater than 32kbps
So I found that if I use 'nfsstat -m' it shows the actual buffer size that is being used. And verified that the max allowed for me is 32k.

Is there anyway to determine if the size is being set by negotiation? Is there anyway to enable this level of debug?

comment I can't install mysql on 14.04: “Unable to set password for the MySQL root user”
Thanks this worked with a few additions. 1) The first command complained about having log_slow_verbosity, so I had to remove from the my.cnf 2) Then I had to start service. 3) /usr/bin/mysql_secure_installation

There are a lot of options in that other question, but none worked for me, and none were accepted by original asker either.

Just had to add -f to first command to allow to remove without deleting file.

comment After boot, need to restart smbd to get printer sharing to work. Is it starting before cups?
Thanks this helped. But the file is actually in /etc/init/*, and I added a wait for cups in the smbd.conf

comment Why can't upstart start cups or mysql?
Ok I found some more info: seems apparmor is having some problems. this is in boot.log AppArmor parser error for /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.cupsd in /etc/apparmor.d/tunables/global at line 17: Could not open 'tunables/proc'
