I live in Southern California and have been using Ubuntu since 8.04. I'm more of a GUI type of guy but will get my hands dirty in terminal, but most of that is thru Google and monkey see - monkey do. I prefer Unity over the Gnome Shell and I believe Ubuntu has made huge positive jumps with each release. Right now I use Ubuntu mostly and then Win7, and that's just to run the updates. I have another laptop that explore other OS's with, now its Xubuntu 13.04 (just about time for 13.10) and I love it just as much!

Y'all enjoy!!!

PS, if you really want to learn Ubuntu it is thru sites like this.

@mbiber if you post your response as an answer I will be more than happy to mark it as the answer I was looking for. Thanks again.

@Sneetsher Thanks for the input, but the only one that came close was #2 in the accepted answer and that didn't work for me, trying all three changes suggested. All others seemed to cover systems with the operating system already loaded and correcting problems after install or at least being able to install.

@Sneetsher - I didn't see this in my search. This sight is so vast that searching is hard unless you get the right verbage. I just finished using mbiber suggestion, just I would rather have a clean install for 14.10 than updating. For the record the alternate cd did work. The first boot after install did not work but I went into safe mode and even tho I did not do anything I was able to boot up normally. It's an early Sunday afternoon so I'll give the other option a try.

Is this LTS only or can I do the 14.10? Going back to Xubuntu. I just use the common 64 bit download and it's just blackscreen with no prompts or anything. Does alternate give me terminal prompts and a GUI for install?

I think my answer is outdated. I've used the answer above mine (at this time) by @Dale E. Moore and had successful installs.

I get this an ERROR 404 with these instructions. I installed using @David E. Moore instructions listed below. Not sure if adding the libxss1 helped with Mr Moore's instruction or not but I did do that before. This was on a fresh install on 13.10 Unity amd64 install.

After I installed with Ubuntu Software Center I did what Jorge said, use ALT-F2 and then ubuntuone-control-panel-qt --with-icon and it works great.

These are the biggest advantage to using local storage, the fact you can view your webmail offline.
