comment How do I find the package that provides a file?
This works for libraries as well, which is particularly handy if you have a binary that won't run because you can inspect it with ldd and use the full library paths to find the packages you are missing.

comment “Failed to setuid to root.” How do I Establish a VPN network?
One addition I would make is to copy the network_connect dir and then make a symlink for ncsvc. Otherwise it can't be found when launching it from Firefox.

comment How can I get the A2DP output option and the input working again?
This made things worse for me on Trusty (14.04). Now I can't get A2DP at all. I guess I'm in fresh reinstall territory now :(

Yes, you can delete the folders after the installation. Thank you for the comments and edits folks. Good stuff.

comment Scheduling a reboot on a remotely located Ubuntu server
This is a bit problematic since it is interactive and blocks the shell you are running. I'm not sure if this would work predictably over SSH if the session drops.

comment After Installing 12.04.1 I Have No GUI?
Didn't work as expected. I get the graphical environment, but there are no icons or controls so it's non-functional.

comment How do I get the GUI to come back?
I had to use "sudo startx" since I wasn't logging in as root. I am using an NVidia GeForce GTX 460. Hopefully the proprietary drivers will help. I'll try that and report back.

Works with a slight modification: sudo startx. Same thing is happening to me. Using NVidia GeForce GTX 460. I'm guessing installing the proprietary drivers will probably help. I'll try that and report back.

comment how to get Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000's zoom slider (and other buttons) to work?
Through trial and error I found that my keyboard is /dev/input/event3 and evtest doesn't pick up any events from the zoom slider.

evtest isn't even installed by default making this even worse.

This is far too technical and disorganized an answer for most people. A few serious gaps: no help on determining the appropriate /dev/input/eventX, unclear steps mixed in with contextual information and requests not to ask for instructions for creating keymaps.
