@jo-erlend Like I mentioned earlier, ubuntu-bugs said to come here so I did. I'll give it another shot.

@fossfreedom Adding memory and enabling 3D does work for the virtual machine, but it does slow it down considerably. However I couldn't get the problem to reproduce in that environment, so if it is a Ubuntu bug then it's in unity-2d.

@MichaelMS When I tried to report the bug via ubuntu-bugs, it sent me here. You're correct though, right now there isn't a question in the question. I suppose the question would be "Is this a Ubuntu bug or a VirtualBox bug?"

Not that I am aware of. According to the machine's display settings in VirtualBox, there's 12 MB for video memory, 1 monitor, and no 3D acceleration or 2D video acceleration. This is my work PC - I'm not sure it could handle the 3D if I toggled it.

Yes, I forgot to mention that in the original article. I did that to try to get unity to work since it would not after the first install. The additions did not help on their own, but I found an article mentioning installing unity-2d and that worked.
