comment Can I turn off gedit antialiasing?
System font is Ubuntu Mono 13, mine is 11. Bigger blurry text is not exactly what I need :) . Greyscale antialiasing looks different - better in gedit, but worse everywhere else, mainly web browser.

There it is: img842.imageshack.us/img842/7538/rjsw.png . Notice that line indexes are not blurry, but the colored text is.

Thanks, but the only blurry text is in gedit - while the background is white (Ubuntu / Ubuntu Mono font). This seems as gedit is treated differently.

comment Can't access BIOS and installing a windows hard drive
Is this a hard drive with Win7 (that is not being detected or booted) and Ubuntu (that can be booted)? What type of installation did You choose and what partition settings? Have You checked in Disk Manager if there is still Win7 partition? As I've typed, Win7 should not work properly on a different motherboard than it was installed on, I would backup Win7 data (access from Ubuntu for example) and then install freshly Win7, but this will cause another problem - most likely Win7 will disable Ubuntu booting, yet easy to solve, easy to search.

comment ATI Fglrx driver problem
Have You tried installing fglrx on live CD and aticonfig -initial, then copy good new xorg.conf to HDD's Ubuntu? I'm not sure about next solution, but You can boot live CD and work on HDD's Ubuntu (be careful) by few commands: askubuntu.com/questions/88384/… .

comment 12.04 NO display when booting
Depending on notebook the external monitor may not receive any signal until Operating System will load drivers etc. I have that kind of notebook so internal display works while booting, but external monitor need Ubuntu to be running first - the signal begins at the login screen.
