Your wireless AP is only b? You should still be able to do the disable n option, as that is client side and maybe it's trying to find a N network and getting fouled up.

@notfed I just tested one of my 14.04 servers and it worked. If you are testing with comments, please note that in /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/head is the only place I could put a comment that would make it into the resolv.conf file. Putting it in base did nothing.
