I'm a professional game developer (mainly programmer). I do Java and, when I have to, ActionScript 3. I also know PHP very well (Zend certified), but I avoid it if possible.

In my free time I co-run and develop for Revora Creative Network, a collection of sites hosting and providing services to creative projects (mostly game mods and indie games).

My UUID is:

comment Starting java processes with Upstart
exec inside the start scripts works like a charm :) I wish I had known about it sooner, so I wouldn't have had to write the following monstrosity for a past project: java ...; JAVAPID=$!; trap "kill $JAVAPID" exit INT TERM; wait

comment Suspend desktop from the lock screen
Note: I often type in my password, hit enter, then sleep, without turning on my monitor. It's extra annoying when this doesn't work and I need to turn it on after all to check what went wrong.

comment Xubuntu LightDM shows blank screen half the time
I have the same problem. I hadn't gone looking for a solution yet, but then I accidentally stumbled upon this post: webupd8.org/2013/01/ubuntu-lightdm-black-screen-when-using.html. It seems to be a race condition that surfaces only with the speed an SSD brings. The workaround is adding a 2 second delay to the LightDM startup script.
