I've been programming since about 1970 when my high school mathematics instructor exposed the class to writing HP BASIC programs on an HP 2114 mini-computer, inputting our nascent efforts on optical-mark cards and editing our programs on a Teletype Model 35 ASR console. Since then, I've worked with a number of different programming and scripting languages as an adjunct to my engineering profession and for personal entertainment and education.

I've never owned an Apple product and rarely use them. I used MS-DOS since 1984 and Microsoft Windows on PCs since 1990, but in 2007 I began to shift away from Microsoft to Linux. I now use Ubuntu Linux 98% of the time, only rarely resorting to Windows when I need to use a proprietary program.
