comment How to activate mobile broadband automatically once a broadband modem is active?
This is already done. The problem is not to set up a connection that automatically connects to Internet but triggering it when a modem is inserted and network is ready to receveive connections!

comment How can I get the authentification dialog programatically?
Not at all. it's not gksu (gksudo is somehow an alias for gksu in Ubuntu). But policykit is from what I recall a keyword in what I am looking for. Of course, when you run synaptic without root privilege, it prompts you with the authenticate dialog I am interested in.

No. I remember that it was an option somewhere to increase and decrease the margin between line_numbers and code.

comment Global Menu broken for Gnome Applications after adding GNOME 3 PPA
I see. I already purged the GNOME3 PPA. but that did not help. I updated, checked if these Gnome Apps like totem or Gedit are newer than those in Quantal archive and it seems, not.

Thanks for this fine asnwer. That's exatcly what I wanted. I did not know xdotool existed and I do prefer it too :) However the xkill command you gave is going to be very handy.

comment How to xkill an application by its id?
Thanks for the response. Well, I know how to spot a process and kill it. That's not a problem. In my question I specified that I need to separate the running app from X Server using xkill command.

That's exactly what I want. I just want to separate the app from X server.

comment How to xkill an application by its id?
Thanks for the answer, yet, that's not what I am looking for. Killall will kill all processes related to a resource application. Sure; i can grep a resource pid using: ps -A | grep gedit

The answer below is likely the correct workaround, but to make sure. Could you type this commnd in terminal 15 seconds after you plug in your usb modem: lsusb and give us the output.
