That is What I did last time through the Flash disk! Created the bootable disk with 10.10 Disk creator utility using the iso image of Ubuntu 11.04 and same thing for 11.10. Both Official releases! Did not try with Betas or RCs.

I tested the same config (Booting from a USB HDD powered by the same USB plug) and it won't work. Using a USB key works fine. Tried with a USB HDD powered by AC adaptor and it works fine! That is likey to be the right answer!

Had the same problem! I replaced Ubuntu with Kubuntu and everything worked fine! Never knew why!

Wayland e is the way to go. Scheduled for summer 2012 by Canonical. Nvidia does not want to provide Optimus Support for Linux unless X is replaced by WAyland. Sticking to Bumblebee is the way to go untill then! Thanls for the elucidation :)

Thanks! Though this is not an answer to the question (Bug with APTITUDE). This is what I did at the first place, installing ntfs config and then make a directory... Then use dynamic mounting instead of static for external NTFS drives.
