comment Lenovo ThinkPad T440p + Ubuntu 12.04/14.04
This answer helped me a lot, using the "nomodeset" was the only way to install 14.04. The only catch is that once it is installed I removed the "nomodeset" option from grub editing /etc/default/grub and installed the nvidia driver from the default "Additional Drivers" program. Now the computer works perfectly as a Certified Hardware model should. Thanks!

"sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales" is all you need

comment Why does DVD playback still not work after installing libdvdcss2?
there's just one additional thing I had to do. I was not able to set the region because the dvd wouldn't be read at all (could not read /dev/dvd). There was no dvd folder in /dev so I created a symbolic link using "cd /dev" then "sudo ln -s sr0 dvd" (without the quotes off course) Otherwise thank you very much

comment Unable to mount Internet Manager ZTE MF-195 USB wireless modem
When I used sakis3g it was pretty straight forward, it recognized my usb stick, asked me some info, password and connected. There are some posts on the net about this modem if you want to take a look linux.org/threads/zte-lte-usb-modem-not-connecting.4491 but I also found a bug report and people say it could be a kernel issue bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1173566 in that case you could try with the latest ubuntu version eventually.
