I could have just looked at the output from apt-get. Running "sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager compiz-plugins-extra" also installs compiz-plugins. You also kind of alluded to this in your original answer. Thank you for being so comprehensive.

Also, sudo chmod -w /sys/module/snd_hda_intel/parameters/power_save_controller does not work to keep the file from being written to. Every time I restart my system the value is changed back to Y
