comment How to enable mute and volume buttons on HP Elitebook 8460p?
I got the ttys back up now. All of them give codes. None of them work after switching back to the desktop, however. I think they need to be remapped. Do you know how to rempap the keys? I don't remember. If you can give a straight forward method, and it works, I'll accept this as the answer.

@Wilf be that as it may, I've never run into any trouble with that site. Plus, if you're going to use Windows software, you should be prepared for the insecurities.

comment Where is the login screen wallpaper for GDM stored?
Next time please check which variant of Ubuntu you are referring to. Ubuntu Gnome is what you're using in this case, but initially I thought you had Ubuntu proper.

comment How to get the calender from 10.04 or a similar alternative?
As far as I'm aware, there are no modern calender apps for Ubuntu that do this, but he can get the two features separately.

Did you try checking to see if something got muted? Use 'alsamixer' in a terminal and post a screenshot.

comment Is there one file that all Desktop Managers (GNOME, KDE, XFCE and etc) are required to read/execute when users login?
@SamB I simply didn't specify how to set them. But you can add a script to your start applications or even write the out the command line to add the environment variable to your startup programs.

comment Why is my CPU Frequency stuck?
No, the 0-1 tells it to set that for both processor cores. But, your saying to add it as a loop to /etc/rc.local - so what I'm wondering about is if this is supposed to run only on boot or constantly as a loop while the system is on. (I'm assuming the former but just need to be sure).

I'd rather you take that question to chat, since it would be lot to cover in comments.

comment How do I install Ubuntu-Tweak?
This is indeed the most simple, but not the most preferable. The reason I've provided the PPA method is because it ensures updates.

comment Why is my CPU Frequency stuck?
Using an older kernel didn't fix it - so I'm assuming the problem lies somewhere else, such as in cpufreq-utils. I was suspecting that might be the case.

@fossfreedom I haven't tried it yet, but it will depend on if I still have any old kernels installed lol. I usually remove them shortly after updating.

@foss & rat - you may be right, I think it started after a routine kernel update.
