comment Is there one file that all Desktop Managers (GNOME, KDE, XFCE and etc) are required to read/execute when users login?
@SamB I simply didn't specify how to set them. But you can add a script to your start applications or even write the out the command line to add the environment variable to your startup programs.

comment Why is my CPU Frequency stuck?
No, the 0-1 tells it to set that for both processor cores. But, your saying to add it as a loop to /etc/rc.local - so what I'm wondering about is if this is supposed to run only on boot or constantly as a loop while the system is on. (I'm assuming the former but just need to be sure).

I'd rather you take that question to chat, since it would be lot to cover in comments.

This is indeed the most simple, but not the most preferable. The reason I've provided the PPA method is because it ensures updates.

Using an older kernel didn't fix it - so I'm assuming the problem lies somewhere else, such as in cpufreq-utils. I was suspecting that might be the case.

Wouldn't running this in a loop cause problems?

@fossfreedom I haven't tried it yet, but it will depend on if I still have any old kernels installed lol. I usually remove them shortly after updating.

@foss & rat - you may be right, I think it started after a routine kernel update.

Updated the question. I'm also stumped because that should be 800000

comment Samba not allowing me into the workgroup?
P.S. this still won't allow me to get into the computer in question with just guest access (which worked before), and probably not at all since I can't even view what folders there are on any share.

Is [ShareName] supposed to be in the codeblock?

@hatterman I've done that :( and it doesn't work.

@guntbert exactly how is that going to solve the problem if it is at a lower level? Even Dolphin doesn't work :/ I can see my father's laptop (a Windows system, running Windows 7), under "Workgroup". I can't access any files but that's okay cause I haven't set it to share any. However, with my own systems running Ubuntu I can't get into my own workgroup or access files over Samba even on the same system sharing the files.

I've tried the resolve order fix and that didn't work either.

@fossfreedom there is no such file or folder.

@hatterman I added myself to the samba and sambashare groups, restarted smbd and nmbd, restarted nautilus, tried again and still got the same problem.

comment Samba not allowing me into the workgroup?
@fossfreedom 4. I do have folders shared (using nautilus-share or whatever it's called). This used to work in the past. I will post the log later. I have tried the method of sharing files using smb.conf and even THAT didn't work.

comment Samba not allowing me into the workgroup?
@hatterman it's only Linux (there is a Windows machine in the house but I'm not trying to access it). I can't even view the files of the machine I'm on from the network. It keeps asking for this username and password even with guest sharing enabled.

There is no "server" really. It is just two systems (sometimes 3) that are set to share files. I can't even view my own local system because of this prompt, and enabling the guest account doesn't work (nor does entering "guest").
