comment How to clone to a smaller harddisk?
Just one question, why is it required to be a clone? If it's for the UUID, then do you mind shrinking the filesystem before performing the dd copy? If you don't mind shrinking, then just run resize2fs to get the filesystem down to where it's smaller than the target disk, and then dd copy it over. On the other side run resize2fs again to expand out and fill the new disk.

comment Troubles with modules after upgrade to kernel 3.2.0-60
Just on a side note, if you have to install the headers, it should run dkms for you. If it doesn't or is the headers are installed, try: /etc/kernel/postinst.d/dkms $(uname -r) which runs dkms for everything registered against your running kernel. If there are any errors check out the make.log files in /var/lib/dkms/$drivername/$(uname -r) <--- those aren't real variables on your system, you're going to have to dig a little.

comment Unable to boot LiveCD on an Atom N2600
I'm not sure we have enough information to really figure out what the issue is. Can you please try the ubuntu boot again, however remove 'splash' from the end of your kernel arguments. Then post what the last thing the livecd attempts doing prior to it just locking up. With that we should have more of an idea of what's going wrong.

I have a quick question. How are you looking at the RAID? For just about any type of RAID on linux, you should be using mdadm. If you see something showing up as a /dev/sda or something along those lines then it probably isn't your raid. Run mdadm -ay then cat /proc/mdstat to see what the name of your RAID device should be. I think you can take it from there. Good Luck!

comment How to prevent “Write Failed: broken pipe” on SSH connection?
Nothing really. The session was interrupted, and the security of the session was compromised. If you don't put the comp to sleep you can set a keep alive time for the client to shoot a keep alive heart beat to the server, but if the system's going to sleep then there is nothing that can be done.

comment How to add folder or file to launcher?
@WarriorIng64 Couldn't the user just put Exec= nautilus /media/dumpLocal in the .desktop file to open the desired folder. If they want a file, just come up with the program that launches it, and put it with a ref to the file in the exec line.
