comment How do I configure swappiness?
My experience with swappiness 10, compared to swappiness 60 on ubuntu 14.04 with 8GB is: I got better response times. Eclipse is not freezing as often as it used to. Unity freezes and complete lockups do not occure anymore (they did on a daily basis before). My Disk is working much less, with swappiness 60 I had fulltime diskoperations as soon as more than 4GB of Ram were used. BUT: I think as a JAVA developer I am not the intended targetgroup for default setting. No setting is default in my ubuntu setup. Be careful when changing yours.

comment How to have Gnome 3 styling on youtube with Unity?
It is Totem with YouTube Browser Plugin you mean?! This seems to not working anymore, due to changes in Youtube API. When have you used it the last time under Gnome3? Just a Tip: I use Minitube for Youtube, it is free for Linux Users: flavio.tordini.org/minitube

Basically you need to add the missing dll to the wine config.

comment Nemo / Nautilus folder icon size
I am not sure why, but the spacing behaves better when setting org>nemo>icon-view>labels-beside-icons to true in dconf-editor.

comment How to locate a font in Ubuntu?
Not "can", they "are" installed there when using the Font Viewer to install them. I am already spending hours on finding this location to get rid of a font. Pretty dull.

comment Disabling Zeitgeist
I was successfull removing zeitgeist packages one by one on 14.04. sudo apt-get remove zeitgeist zeitgeist-datahub zeitgeist-core , in comparison to sudo apt-get remove zeitgeist*, it did not remove unity or other essential things, only zeitgeist and its daemons. Unity is much faster now.

comment Disabling Zeitgeist
@Izzy The processes zeitgeist-datahub, zeitgeist-daemon and zeitgeist-fts are still running, however, the main zeitgeist process is gone and does not start itself. My dash search is extremly fast (in comparison to before), my System is responsive when just started and the mentioned zeitgeist processes only take ~10MB of RAM, instead of 1GB. I think I can live with this. My first comment was just panik. Everything seems fine here. Is there a bugreport on launchpad regarding Zeitgeist, I could support? I hate this kind of services just slowing down your computer, without any benefits.

comment Disabling Zeitgeist
nice, but zeitgeist processeses start themself again in the background. how can I disable, kill or completly remove zeitgeist in 14.04? I hooks up nearly a GB of RAM and slows my machine down, while I need nothing of its functions.

comment Error installing GIT on Ubuntu 14.04
just tried the git-core ppa and installed git from it. Everything is fine here. Size mismatch is mostly that your system finds, but cannot fully fetch the file. Since it is working here, it might be your ISPs fault or some proxy/firewall related problem like @Pabi mentioned.

comment 14.04: What to do about deprecated Intel Linux Graphics installer?
Do not use the installer on 14.04, use drivers from repository. If you really need fresh drivers in 14.04, take a look at the x-org edgers ppa (launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa), they got it all. But be warned: bleeding edge may contain unwanted bugs.

comment Outlook 2010 via wine is installed, but can't add an account / Ubuntu 14.04
Thunderbird (with EWS Addon) and Evolution are totally capable of connecting to any Exchange Server. Why installing M$ Software on a pretty fine linux System?

comment Nautilus sometimes refuses to rename files or folders - terminal works
I think you are looking for an answer how to solve this with nautilus, but in my experience nautilus in ubuntu is absolutely broken for anything beside viewing folder contents. If you rely on a powerful Filenavigator, look for alternatives. I use Nemo with Unity Patches from webupd8 ppa. Just works.

comment UBUNTU/PHP: Can not connect to sql server 2008
ok, can you check somehow, if any requests reaches the mssql server? Tried to ping the mssql server from the test-vm? In PHP Manual(php.net/manual/en/function.mssql-connect.php#105132), somebody pointed out, that SELinux could prevend Apache from connecting to network. You said it gives you "MSSQL error:", but what number behind the colon? Normally there should be a Number you can google.
