The %F is part of the .desktop file specification: standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/latest/…. So that's not your problem.

The files you found are just the installer scripts that should replace @@BINARY@@ with real values.

Looks like a bug in the installer. Try to grep -r "@@BINARY@@" /etc/ /usr/bin (I'm not sure where VMWare Workstation is installed). This should show you the file that has the string in it. Then you can edit and fix it, and submit a bug report.

comment Issue Mounting NAS
I don't think NFS supports giving a username/password. The access control is done on the server, which specifies which IP addresses to allow mounting an exported directory

Try adding the filesystem type to the command line: -t nfs. nfs is not supported by the normal mount command.

comment Is there a way to update all Java related alternatives?
You don't have to install the plugin (and you shouldn't if you don't need it, due to security considerations). update-java-alternatives changes all other java alternatives, even when the plugin setting throws an error.

comment What is the “yes” command?
@fromnaboo It's a bad example, I know. But sometimes you do not have access to the internal working of a program you have to use, and so yes can help you avoid endlessly repeating the same input.

The link doesn't seem to apply to the OP's problem at all (different VPN client, different error message). Why do you think it will solve his problems?

Did you test whether the connection actually works? What vpnc-script are you using (i had to install the vpnc package to get /etc/vpnc/vpnc-script)?

+1 for advising to use -v parameter; this can help a lot when debugging ssh problems.

Both from and to can be remote locations, e.g. scp -r admin@server:/path joe@local:/path2

@BlindFish But it doesn't have to find your local machine, because you're executing the scp from your local machine!

@BlindFish Just to make sure: you're running your commands as user joe, right?

@BlindFish Sorry, it's the only thing I can think of right now; I use such commands almost every day. You're sure there were no typos involved?

@BlindFish does the path /home/joe/remote/mail really exist on your local machine?

I just used the htop command, and sorted by memory usage.

comment How do I clean or disable the memory cache?
@izx Yes, I know. It could just be that he looks for the solution of the wrong problem. The kernel is smart enough not to fill up memory with caches when it is needed by programs. That's why I think that his memory problems come from a program that uses too much memory.

Are you sure this will solve your problem? Memory doesn't fill up without a reason. I also had the problem that my memory was filling up, and traced it back to tracker-miner. After I uninstalled all tracker packages, my problem went away. I also have 4GB memory, and 2GB are used by chaches, but I'm nor experiencing any problems.
