comment How to Compile and install Virtual usb?
If you're trying to do USB over ethernet usbip.sourceforge.net is worth a shot.

I'd note that I have a run as a SU mod candidate planned in future as well, so I really hope that I can manage! I personally believe responsible stewardship includes knowing when one is over my head. I'd try my best to keep up, working with my fellow mods to try to pull my weight. Otherwise, at some point, I would consider resigning as a mod - there's a precedent for this, and I'd rather have someone else do the job well than do it badly just for the sake of pride as I mentioned. I want to be a kickass mod. Part of that is putting the bigger picture first, and decideing when I am not one.

comment What web browsers are there for Ubuntu?
w3m is also great for when you need to feed web content into a script but can't be bothered to sort through tabs. w3m + grep = awesomely simple content scraping

N.N: good question. Admittedly in the one year and eight months I have been a member of AU, I've only had 142 days on the site - and my active period here was somewhat after I first signed up. I've been on most months except december, and haven't been active that long. If I had a platform, I would say that part of it was to endevour to do better, but really I want to have quality contributions over clocking in. If elected a mod, I would discharge my duties to the best of my abilities, and If i felt they were not good enough, consider passing the torch to the next candidate.

How does your personal stance, and standard, form letter moderator nomination mesh with the ubuntu code of conduct?

comment Something went wrong with driver update and now my screen is half the size
Thats fun, I guess something created an xorg file with the wrong size. Ubuntu has a blank one these days, so renaming the old one caused the autodetected settings to work. If you had control alt-backspace enabled, which ubuntu dosen't you could simply restart X with that combo rather than rebooting

The second part is probably another question altogether. IMO

I wonder if xephyr (which lets you do nested X) would work here.

comment What are the differences between sudo, su, visudo, chroot, and gksu?
almost confusingly, on ubuntu, visudo uses nano. I find an easy way to remember which is which is 'su' = switch user (to root - yes, you can use it to switch to other users too), 'sudo' = switch user to root and do, and chroot as 'change root'. Not entirely accurate but close enough to remember.

the TTY and 'what' might work here, you'd just need to extract the necessay bits.

comment I need to install my sql server 5.1 where there is no internet connection
Why are you using rpm packages in ubuntu? Or Tar? Where did you get the tar file from? If its a source package you'd need to compile it

comment Heavy HD activity on memory issue
lighter window manager - say openbox or lxde. I'm really starting to think the hard drive is reacting badly to loads tho. I'll need to try this on one of my ubuntu systems as a comparison.

comment How do I install remastersys?
remastersys was never official, but it generally worked pretty well. So, i suppose it was 'never supported' by ubuntu. It does still seem to work and the dev seems to want to sort out people who think its dead. Inaccurate as such, but i'll let it pass cause i've learnt of a new tool ;p
