Can you check if /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober has some content? If it has, that means that something is wrong with your BIOS.

comment Can I install Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) in place of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and keep all my data (media, documents, etc)?
sudo apt-get will not clean the boot. You should specify the entire command you used.

Actually, I found the correct PID in initial output (i.e. when you start something, it prints PID like [nnnn]). But when it's lost, your solution is awesome!

The best way to add additional information to your question is by editing it, with the edit button. It is better visible that way, and comments are mainly for secondary, temporary purposes. Comments are removed under a variety of circumstances. Anything important to your question should be in the question itself. Also, don't add such information into answers to your question, because it only adds headache to future readers.
