Ubuntu/Linux user since about 2005. I do graphic design and creative work mostly.
I use Ubuntu for work, for play, and for communication. I am absolutely not interested in the technologies underneath it all. In other words, I try to use my computer for doing things, not do things for my computer.
I'm a strong advocate of open source software and the principles behind it.
Current hardware (aka the sources of all the problems that bring me here):
Desktop: Ubuntu 12.10 Gnome Classic, Intel i5, 4GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce 9600, dual monitor
Laptop: Ubuntu 12.10 Gnome Classic (no effects), Asus Zenbook, i5, 4GB RAM
Media Server: Mythbuntu 12.10, Intel Q4, 4GB RAM

Is there a way I can transfer all my web sites on localhost to a new computer? Added note about restarting Apache after changes to php.ini. |

Is there a way I can transfer all my web sites on localhost to a new computer? Nowhere is there a request for anyone to write a script for me, but isn't Stack Exchange a place to get specific information? Now that I know that the mysql database is where user priveleges are stored, that's information I can use. But saying "Other files under /etc/apache2` is as generic as saying "Just copy over the files you need". Also, your "lack of research" accusation is just lashing out. Of course the information is out there, but that I didn't find it isn't evidence that I didn't look. If everyone always could find everything they needed to know, SE wouldn't need to exist. |

Is there a way I can transfer all my web sites on localhost to a new computer? Thank you for answering, however, it's not that I don't understand that I need those things or that a script would be good, what I'm asking is exactly how. Saying "dpkg -l and grep are your friends" is cute, but it doesn't describe any process. Also, if I dump all MySQL databases, that doesn't include all MySQL user account and privilege information. Sorry, but this doesn't really answer the question, as it lacks any details about how to carry out your recommendations. |

Is there a way I can transfer all my web sites on localhost to a new computer? @strugee: I just want the web sites, including all configurations and databases. I do not want to mirror the whole partition. Part of the reason I am moving to a new computer is to start fresh with most settings. I just want to keep the web sites. |
