comment Files lens and xdg-open only open nautilus but not the correct applicatiion
I could track it down to the 'exo-utils' package, where I probably have used exo-preferred-applications from once. In ~/.local/share/applications there is the following entry, which appears to cause it, if exo-file-manager is installed: "mimeapps.list:x-scheme-handler/file=exo-file-manager.desktop"

comment What is the 'ptrace_scope' workaround for Wine programs and are there any risks?
@izx: Thanks for this answer. It would be interesting to add information about what "eip" refers to (explained here: andy-pearce.com/blog/posts/2013/Mar/file-capabilities-in-linux). Additionally, I have suggested recommending this method in the reptyr docs, where the author replied that it may be a security issue: github.com/nelhage/reptyr/pull/27#issuecomment-29486673 - it would be great, if you could elaborate on that.

comment gnome-terminal tabs are very dark, difficult to tell which tab is in use
It might be better to override the style/CSS in your user profile, instead of replacing it in the system file. See this answer: askubuntu.com/a/252192/169

comment How do you know when to use SHIFT+INSERT vs CTRL-V vs right-click-paste to paste?
The question appears to me about the two types of clipboards: PRIMARY (usually Ctrl-C/V/X) and CLIPBOARD (mouse selection, insertion with Shift-Ins), and not having to use Shift additionally in a terminal for the PRIMARY clipboard's shortcuts (or LibreOffice's special paste).

comment Logout/Shutdown taking very long, how to find the problem?
Are you using Squid (a HTTP proxy) by any chance? This might add 30 seconds (shutdown lifetime, can be configured to be 0).

You are right about hybrid-suspend. I have recently changed my snippet myself. You can get (quite) the same result by using METHOD=hibernate and HIBERNATE_MODE=suspend. I am setting HIBERNATE_MODE=platform at the top of the file, instead of saving and restoring the previous version (what the patch does). I will update my answer above.

Would be worth a bug report probably and/or testing if it works in 12.10+.
