comment Google authenticator for the desktop
To be clearer, the main security feature of TOTP imo is to prevent login/password remote attacks, not so much local attacks using the 1 or 2 machines I use every day.

comment Google authenticator for the desktop
An appindicator would be very nice indeed. Porting the code to another language (e.g. python) shouldn't be too hard. As for several devices… well there's still the password. I don't really see a problem with having the authenticator on the desktop as far as security goes.

Cool, thank you. It's too bad these are not provided with the google-authenticator code. Also, I wonder if it would be easy to make some kind of desktop widget with multiple account/key pairs, maybe using another language ;-)

comment How can I use a passcode generator for authentication for remote logins?
And if you're using Puppet, there's a puppet module here: github.com/camptocamp/puppet-googleauthenticator

comment How can I get apt to use a mirror close to me, or choose a faster mirror?
That works when you're lucky. I've disabled it on our desktops now because it would often return broken mirrors (the kind that give you 403 occasionally).

comment How can I remove duplicate second Unity Launcher on a Dual Screen setup?
Nice answer. For the record, I have set the following values: /apps/compiz-1/plugins/unityshell/screen0/options/overcom_pressure=1 to make it possible to pass from one screen to another flawlessly and /apps/compiz-1/plugins/unityshell/screen0/options/stop_velocity=20 to still make it possible to access the hidden launcher on the left screen.

comment So, what is the advantage of using the terminal?
I'd call ` bad ticks... It's better to use ls /home/$(whoami) nowadays :-)

comment How do I get an ssh -X session to use the host's sound settings
Have you tried using NX instead of ssh -X ? It still goes through SSH, will make the session faster, and supports audio export: nomachine.com/ar/view.php?ar_id=AR03D00355
