I somehow accepted the wrong answer. How do I change it?

I did try it, and it didn't work. Little did I know what by setting nomodeset before installing the nvidia drivers removes nomodeset. So this time, I installed nvidia first, then set nomodeset and it worked! Thanks for the help!

I'm installing the driver using the Additional Drivers from Software & Updates. Please see screenshot added to original question.

I get the blank screen after the grub menu when I select Ubuntu. The grub screen only appears after the first attempt, I get no grub at the first attempt, the grup screen automatically appears when I restart the blank screen.

Plus my computer is about 5 years old, I don't think it has secureboot. But I'll have a double check in the morning.

Not sure yet what secureboot is, but does this apply if I did a fresh install of 16.04. I didn't do an upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04.

comment Syncing dm-crypted drives?
This looks like that I was after. I'm assuming I need to do the following instead? bdsync --patch /dev/sdb /dev/sdc where sdb is the updated version and sdc is the one which is out of sync? Thanks!

comment Sharing phone's internet connection on laptop without the help of USB cable
2 reasons. 1. Because I need to use my 3g connection, you can't get wifi everywhere. 2. I don't want to carry around a usb cable, I want to do this via bluetooth.

@AzkerM, 2 reasons for that. 1. I don't have wifi on my laptop. 2. I want to use my phones 3g via bluetooth to give my laptop an internet connection where no wifi is available.

That's usb tethering, which I currently use, I want to get rid of the usb cable and do the whole thing using bluetooth.

I can see an option to switch on usb tethering, but I can't see bluetooth tethering. I can only switch on bluetooth on the phone.

I'm on a desktop, but have no gui, just the command line. No, I am not accessing a remote machine with ssh.

comment Customizing the boot message?
I see, so I have to change the whole theme? I can't simply change the text in the existing theme by opening up a text file in some configuration section or something like that?

It's that link about plymouth? The image I am showing is a text based loader.

comment Zenity from command line Linux installation
It installed about 70+ MB or packages. I tried zenity again and got the same error message again. I got similar messages with and without the export.

I get (zenity:908): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :0.0. Don't I need to install xorg or something like that?
