The config file remains untouched, it's just ignored, at least it seems. cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward says 1. So I guess some process changes that ...

From what I understand that loads the options at runtime, which works. At the next boot however I am still in the same situation.

And you can clearly tell: "Unpacking apport (2.14.7-0ubuntu2) over (2.14.7-0ubuntu2) ...". What else could lead to the upgrade being shown when manually patched and built?

bodhi.zazen: hm ... how would I do that in an automated manner? I let a script do this for me. (example package: apport). Why on earth would earth upgrade a package that has already the latest version number? Okay manually downloading the latest package and installing dpkg -i works as expected, but I checked the numbers ... package was build with "dpkg-buildpackage -j8 -rfakeroot -b"

Okay I have tested make deb-pkg LOCALVERSION=-custom and it build all packages I need, but the -dbg package is 75MB and the linux-image is 750MB, it should be the other way around. any ideas?
