That solution did not help me actually.

Hm, that seems related (that bug that is linked there has something to do with gnome-shell, which this uninstalled), but I do not experiene any of your package problems (no complaints, everytihng uninstalls and reinstalls without problems). I will see if it changes tihgs though.

comment Mount a VirtualBox drive image (vdi)?
One can download it from here: sourceforge.net/projects/vdfuse/?source=typ_redirect and it works (on 15.04)

comment My fn keys to change brightness/volume stopped working on Ubuntu
What is the outup of running xev command (just open app named gnome-terminal, type in xev, if prompted to install it, install it, if not, after typing it, just press your fn keys and see if there is any reaction - you can compare it to a key that works, like "a" to see what you are supposed to get).

comment Why does sytemd-analyze underreports boot time?
I see, yes, I am using autologin. That might be it that it would take 12 seconds to lightdm prompt (but does not unity start in the background when lightdm prompt is shown? when I type my password, it seems to show immediately, if I remember correctly).

Eh, a mental typo (corrected in the question) I meant kexec, the ability to skip BIOS and GRUB2 during rebooting. It more than halves my reboot time, as can be seen from the output of systemd-analyze.

comment Upstart vs Systemd Performance
I find that shut-down times are much shorter than with upstart.

comment Reboot Ubuntu without going through the BIOS POST
Ha, I messed with systemd a bit (mainly to disable unneeded services to make it boot faster) and now it is quick enough (about two seconds, so reboot takes altogether like 7 seconds). However, it still flickers: youtube.com/watch?v=2jDkEEjb0qA&feature=youtu.be- I disabled plymouth (removed quit-splash from grub config) an the flicker is gone.

comment Trying to install software from user account but getting denied
So just to be clear - you have actually two users, one was created during install and has admin priviledges and the other is this one which does not have admin priviledges? If so, this works as designed, you cannot install software for the whole system witohut admin priviledges. Actually, just go with the use created during install, sudo is meant to only run processes that need root priviledges (so that you do not run firefox as root) with root priviledges and this is exactly its point - to have one user account and being able to admin the system without loggin as root.

If you ran xev on the command line, do they show up? When you install CCSM and enable and disable "commands" plugin, does it not help (it helped me).

comment Reboot Ubuntu without going through the BIOS POST
No, a standard laptop, Thinkpad W530 by Lenovo. First it flickers during shutdown (very weird graphical effects) and then it takes much longer to boot:-/. I am using an EFI install, if that might make a difference.

comment Reboot Ubuntu without going through the BIOS POST
This actually does not make reboots faster for me ( it takes longer to shut down and then kernel takes 7 seconds to boot as compared to less than 2 when using normal reboot), is that expected?
