comment How do I get a USB thumb drive to boot with grub2?
The msdos1 in grub's notation means it's the first partition of an old MSDOS-like partition table (as opposed to a GPT). I can't answer your real question, though.

Have a look at the top answer to askubuntu.com/questions/2573/… - I tried it now, and it works.

Firefox and Chrome both support WebM out of the box nowadays, so you could add that format to your list to get even more confused.

comment How do I use the media keys on a DiNovo Edge keyboard
I agree, it's a bit messy. Are there any error messages in dmesg for these keys? wiki.edubuntu.org/Hotkeys/Architecture seems to be broken at the moment, but the Google cache works. Did you see /usr/share/doc/udev/README.keymap.txt.gz already?

comment How do I use the media keys on a DiNovo Edge keyboard
The last comment in askubuntu.com/questions/72562/… says that he used settings -> keyboard -> shortcuts and edited some shortcuts there. I'm not sure if that can work if xev doesn't even show your keys.

In Natty I can change the keyboard model, and the DiNovo Edge is listed. In Oneiric I cannot find the list with the keyboard models (gnome-keyboard-properties). Maybe setxkbmap -model logidinovoedge works?

comment Setting side mouse buttons to “Back” and “Forward” in browser, nautilus, etc
If you can see the buttons 8 and 9 with xinput test ID, Firefox and Chromium should work with them out of the box, IMHO. I tried it with two VMs that are rather fresh (unconfigured), one Natty and one Oneiric, and the buttons work there, too. What Ubuntu version do you use?

If you open a terminal and run xinput list, can you see your mouse? If yes, can you run xinput test ID, where ID is the number you found from xinput list? Which button numbers are reported for your Back and Forward buttons? As far as I know, the numbers should be 8 and 9. You can reassign the numbers with xinput --set-button-map.

Thank you for your answer and the link to the source. But I think your source says that -l 8192 means 8192 Kbit/second, and the -l might work up to 1 Mbit/second (which seems to be a bit outdated nowadays).

Instead of editing /etc/group, you could use adduser rodrigo fuse.
