You are asking for opinions. My opinion: None of what you state here required a windows machine and can be done just as easy in Linux. Even gaming I do on Ubuntu (Neverwinter Nights and Baldur's Gate are my favorites). We can not answer this for you; only you can.

Notepad++ is windows software?! Why ask this on a site dedicated to Ubuntu? And the search+replace in Notepad++ is pretty clear on how to do this: \r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n -> \r\n or the r and n go the other way around but we Linux users only have \r or \n (I NEVER seem to be able to remember the one it is ;) )
