comment Ubuntu 14.04 Brother MFC-J825DW fails to print
Sounds similar to my issue, where "Print Self-Test Page" works fine, but "Print Test Page" and any other jobs I sent to networked brother printer (model HL-6180DW) would show up in CUPS "completed jobs", but never actually printed. Dumindu's solution of installing all the Brother packages fixed the issue.

If you got this dialed in for all the Mac keyboard shortcuts, sharing your config file would be terrific! Thanks

comment How to configure preferred network for internet?
Do you know if all connections on the LAN fail, or could it be something like a DNS lookup issue? Unrelated to your question, maybe check the DNS preferences for each connection. If different, and you want LAN to work better, maybe try switching to what wireless has

comment Ubuntu on ThinkPad. Erase recovery partition and burn a recovery cd instead
Probably a dead end, but worth checking your /etc/fstab entries look okay. I saw someone got the same error when their fstab was screwed up: bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=62223 (you could try removing the fstab entry for that partition---if there is one---then reboot, and try a manual mount of the partition.
