I'm quite new in the Linux world but very enthusiastic about it. I like most Ubuntu and Ubuntu-based distro, not because the others are ugly (cos they are not) but because I didn't get to connect them to Internet.

I also like and wont to learn new interesting things related to the IT world, things that are not only beautiful in an abstract way but it could be useful in life (in a more practical lucrative way).

I am also interested in improving my English because it is not my mother tongue so I don't master it. But practice makes perfect, so I keep a blog in English and I am active on English-speaking forums and online communities, like this. :-)

comment Fixed resolution
Hi! Thanks! But in my case (12.04 LTS), it works only temporarily. If restart or turn off the netbook, or even if it get is stand by mode, when it start again, the resolution is bad. Since the day when one stupid game ruined my resolution, I have to actually write this command line every day for several times. Isn't it there a definite solution for this problem?

comment Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.com 404 not found
Today I had to remove another ppa (from New Linux Counter Project) but I wonted to do that by using command line. Unfortunately, your suggestion did not worked. In fact, I have tried a lot of variants, including ppa-purge as suggested above, but it did not worked. Only command line that helped me is this: sudo apt-add-repository -r ppa:user/repository. I have found the answer here: askubuntu.com/a/18202/146105

comment How can PPAs be removed?
Thanks! I used sudo apt-add-repository -r ppa:user/repository to uninstall a stubborn ppa from New Linux Counter Project. I have tried a lot of command lines and suggestions but none of them was of any help, only yours worked! Thanks! One info: it works in 12.04 LTS too, not only in Maverick.

The "ppa-purge" link doesn't work. It gives a 404 error.

comment Pidgin and Gtalk (online version) don't always synchronize
Thanks, xangua! I was afraid that i would never et an answer! Please, correct me if I am wrong. Should I understand that, in order to store all the messages, I have to keep my Pidgin app opened (I have to be signed in on Pidgin)? Also, thanks for telling me about the purple directory! I did not know about it. So, in order to save my conversations, should I just save the .purple directory? (I mean save it just in case I wont/need/have to change the distro, OS or PC).
