Graduate student at Northwestern University studying bio sciences and BIGG DATAAAAA; still know my electrical engineering though.

  • Learning:
    • Python (+ wxPython, PIL Image, others),
    • PowerShell
    • Java (on Android platform)
  • Know C on embedded well (what's a file? stream? :P)
  • Used to know HTML (sort-of now), CSS (less-so...), JScript (no.) At least I was able to forget most of this stuff just in time for AJAX to become useful. (Because it's totally different from DHTML...)

I like stout, esp. oatmeal stout. Gin and tonic if we're talking mixed drinks. Also like Portal (hell, all Valve games), and would kill a bus full of baby nuns with fire if Gabe would release Half-Life 3 already.

Kinda strange that you can't do this from the Disk Management console (diskmgmt.msc)

comment How to make selected tab in terminal more prominent
Ah; you just lop off :active, but you still need to style the :active pseudoclass as there doesn't seem to be any rules there by default.

comment How to make selected tab in terminal more prominent
For completeness, if I want to make the inactive tabs dimmer (in 14.04 everything's white-ish), what are the CSS selectors for them?

14.04 (maybe 13.10 also) replaced jockey-common with ubuntu-drivers-common which has the ubuntu-drivers executable that works differently.

comment Setting HOSTNAME on startup
Are you saying that I would need to let it boot all the way to login prompt (I don't know when rc.local runs exactly), let that config script run (which could self-destruct or otherwise inactivate itself) then reboot for changes to take effect? Is there a way to do it in one go?

comment How can I install Python 2.6 on 12.04?
Attempting to build Python 2.6 in 12.04 results in myriad non-functional standard library packages. Without instructions on how to correct errors with building the zlib, sha, and other whack-a-mole problems, this answer is a waste of time.

comment I just noticed I Installed 64-bit system by mistake
64-bit software can be more efficient, but it varies wildly. It's often anything but if you're running 32-bit apps in a 64-bit environment.

comment How to update python from 2.7.3 to 2.7.4 on Ubuntu 12.04?
Why is building it from source not recommended? Is requesting a backport realistic or shouting at the wind?

comment gnome-tweak-tool doesn't start due to “ImportError: No module named gi” error
Should have known to do this already, had the same problem with diffuse. Not sure why installed "binaries" seem to be so deferential towards using the current env Python.
