If you look at the fdisk -l I already have another RAID 1 on the same controller and that's already detected and working fine in Ubuntu. I just happened to add another RAID 1 which is what I'm having trouble with now.

Sorry I didn't paste it but manually typed it to you. I meant /dev/sdb all this time. And there are several trailing lines for the dmraid command but I thought it was implied it didn't find anything. I'll paste the output in the question to clear up the confusion.

For the record I have erased everything again and starting from scratch. Windows does detect the raid but I have not formatted or initialized the disk from windows this time.

blkid -p /dev/sdb/ does nothing, no message. dmraid -rvv /dev/sdb/ gives no raid disks and with names: "/dev/sdb"

Thanks, I had another installation but triple checking is always good. :D Now, I have tried nearly everything to get drwxrwsrwton /var/crash but the closest I can get is drwsrwsrwt. What does the chmod permission number look like for the crash folder?
