comment What is a good Foxit reader equivalent (or other PDF editor)?
This one is similar to Okular in that you have to keep selecting the highlight text tool for subsequent highlights, which can be annoying if you're trying to highlight text here and there while skimming through a document. It has a bit more precision with the highlighting areas, even if the cross-hairs are a bit clunky (compared to a more standard text select tool for highlighting). It's got some nice form creation tools and lets you edit text in an existing PDF with ease but is still lacking in its document review features.

comment Is there a way to push contrast, brightness and saturation in X11 for arbitrary applications?
When I say "push" I'm borrowing from filmmaking jargon to express the topic as if it were an element of post-production processing--A developer can push or pull the film processing in order to compensate for lighting conditions which require non-standard exposure settings or to produce a desired aesthetic. You can do the same thing with effects filters in a video editing application like Kdenlive, Final Cut or Adobe Premiere.

The "silent" arguments for the volume step bash scripts is kind of a dummy hack--The scripts don't actually do anything with the argument other than to test if it exists. So you can plug anything in there with the same effect.

Oh no! Now it's falling out of sync w/ audio...See other suggestion about Adobe.

Now the latest pepper flash falls out of sync with video for a huge percentage of DRM content. So much for upgrading...keeping Adobe. Hmm...Amazon Prime has a message with the same suggestion, "Unsupported player..." Hopefully the networks will catch on with the same kind of browser detection, since I'm currently noticing that certain sites work better with Pepper while others choke on it--The variable bitrate streaming is better in Pepper when it works.
