@Jos Just tried your solution. Opened XSLX on Ubuntu machine, added just a simple text, then Save As Microsoft Excel 2007/2010/2013 XML (.xlsx), opened it on Windows 8.1 machine via Excel 2013 and I got an error popup saying We found a problem with some content in xyz. Do you want us to try to recover as much as we can? If you trust the source of this workbook, click Yes. Check edit for more info please.

@Jos Are you doing it this way or you think it will work? As I have been trying to make it work for years, without success. If you are editing the same XLSX file on 2 platforms with success, then I will open a new topic trying to figure out why it does not work on my machines for years.

@JacobVlijm Yes, but I "solved" it by turning the monitor back to horizontal :). Post it and I will test it. It will also help others.

@edwardtorvalds Hmm I have only one. I guess you have onboard graphic card. I would put it on nvidia section and reboot the device. In case you end up with a message that something's wrong with xorg.cong file, simply mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup /etc/X11/xorg.conf and start all over. This means that you wrongly entered Option line in the file

@kgizdov The line provided helped in my case. Did not have to add anything extra.
