It's an Nvidia GeForce 6200 (256MB), I believe. I've got Nvidia's restricted drivers installed.

I believe flash is only used for sound. It's definitely installed. The odd thing is the near identical setup (as far as Xubuntu is concerned) between the two machines. I think I may try running dpkg --get-selections and compare the two.

I suppose that, in theory, because this thing is running LVM that should be /dev/mapper/SS928-root. That's definitely not working in this instance.

Just commenting (rather than answering) because this is only speculation, but you may be able to partition the drive and create the startup disk only on a single partition. There's also a slider for setting "reserved extra space."
