comment Very slow graphics performance after upgrade 12.04 => 14.04
Booting with "video=LVDS-1:d" workaround worked for me too. Would recommend this for anybody affected by this bug.

comment How to upgrade from Ubuntu 12.10 to 14.04
This is a valid approach, but not preferable, due to the downtime involved. I'll be making a complete backup before attempting the upgrade, so if something goes completely wrong during the upgrade, I can always fall back on a clean install and restore from backup.

I don't believe this works from 12.10. It only offers me release 13.10, just as update-manager does.

comment Can I skip over releases when upgrading?
Do you know of an official statement from Canonical/Ubuntu on this subject? Seems strange to me that they don't officially support this. Otherwise, why would the update-manager from Ubuntu 12.10 even give me the option to only upgrade to LTS releases if that will never be a possibility?

comment What is the method to manage network interfaces in Ubuntu 12.04?
Previously, 'dhclient eth0' ALWAYS worked. Now, it produces the message 'RTNETLINK answers: File exists' and the old static settings remain. As far as I can tell, I'm not the only one who's encountered this: ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1928138

comment Correct way of mounting a Windows share
I think it's worth noting that in Ubuntu 12.10, "mode" was not a valid parameter. Instead, I had to use "file_mode". Also, I'm not sure I entirely agree with general permissions of 0777. If you're mounting a private share just for yourself, I think something like "file_mode=0660,dir_mode=0770" would be more appropriate.
