Ubuntu 11.04 64bits Keeps Randomly Freezing A suggestion - perhaps related to overheating, or power supply problems. At least, that's the only thing that's caused similar problems on my systems (where using a live cd/different OS hasn't made any difference). |

“Set as desktop background” not working I joined the exodus to Linux Mint (LXDE edition) because of the dreadful Unity interface, so no, I'm not. |

sound stops working on xfce 11.10 I've given up on straight Ubuntu, preferring instead the fast, clean Unity free Linux Mint LXDE. I've had no problems with it so far. |

Stop Nautilus managing my desktop (XFCE Desktop) Thanks, but I have ditched Ubuntu on all but one PC because of Unity. Rather than install version of Linux and then change the UI away from the default, I've found it better to install Linux Mint and use Mate (a fork of Gnome 2). I'm all in favour of progress, change, improvements and all that, but Unity is just too inflexible and unintuitive - I just have no idea how to do stuff, and whenever I google it seems what I want is impossible. I didn't leave Windows for that. |

Files in /home deleted Sure. I'm a Ubuntu noob, hanging out here to pick up bits of knowledge of how it all hangs together, given that I can't actually find a single resource (site, book) which explains to a technically minded developer/linux noob how it all works. So that's just what I'd do. |

Files in /home deleted I'd try not doing it and reboot a few times, then make your changes one a time, rebooting each time, and checking. |

Files in /home deleted Er.. so if it's not you rearranging config files causing the problem, whatever can it be? Unless you've missed out the step which is causing the problem... |

Will adding more RAM increase my computer's performance? For some tasks, HDDs still outperform SSDs. It depends on the HD and your task. |

How can I make LightDM the default display manager? I have the same problem. Googling reveals we are not alone, but there appears to be no solution. |

Ubuntu as the only office / commercial OS? I didn't downvote, but a question can be interesting, useful, helpful etc but sadly still fall foul of the various 'is this a good question' criteria for this site. |

How can I enable themes in Gnome Shell? It looks like it's been edited to remove the mistakes. By the way, do you think you'll ever follow the rules of this site and accept some of the answers to your previous questions? You'll probably get more help if you do. |
