You're approaching this from the wrong angle. Any decent shell will support autocompletion by hitting the tab key. Telling the shell you want to limit your autocompletion choices to the current directory by using ./ is a good thing and makes it much faster to complete the filename you were looking for. In the case of Django's manage.py file I type './m' and hit tab. Boom.

Try reinstalling nvidia-current. Another thing you could try is to install compizconfig-settings-manager, run it with command ccsm and check that the Unity plugin is enabled.

That sounds like a graphics driver issue. Perhaps reinstalling Nvidia drivers would help?

Did you take a look at ~/.xsession-errors? There might be some clues there as to what went wrong.

That's a warning generated by the C++ compiler, warning that the -Wstrict-prototypes flag issued to the compiler is not valid for C++ code. It's not uncommon to get a bunch of those when compiling C and C++ modules. I wouldn't mind about it.
