comment Issue with setting up multiple IP addresses on ubuntu server installation
why dont you use GUI of Network Manager to do the same? you are trying to bring 2 different subnets on same NIC, i m surprised address of eth0 falls outside the range of subnet and still it is up

comment How do I connect to a WPA wifi network using the command line?
well thats nice that iwlist/iwconfig can handle only WEP but in my case wpa_supplicant -B -iwlan0 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf -Dwext && dhclient wlan0 did not connected to the wireless network, though by default NetworkManager connects me to the network I want to try the command line way is there some mistake I am doing?

comment Unmet dependencies using aptitude to install bind9
I noticed that you used -u in aptitude man page says Begins updating the package lists as soon as the program starts. which package list is this talking and about which program is this referring to, more over how did you reached at conclusion that the packages I have are not in repositories is it because of .dfsg.P1 extensions or some thing else?

comment unable to change ownership of files
well I am not mounting that usb, when I insert USB to my laptop ubuntu automatically does that, i think this default behaviour is caused due to gnome-mount (udisks) working in backend is causing problems, because when I unmount the USB from nautilus window sudo fdisk -l does not show any kind of USB stick i.e. /dev/sdb1 should come here

comment Wifi Connectivity problems when using WPA/WPA2 Encryption
I have faced the same issue , you can resolve this problem if you can change router WPS settings to use just WPA-Personal and TKIP as encryption I had same problem superuser.com/questions/642867/… the problem is being caused by the way Ubuntu handles encryption, in Windows I changed the settings to TKIP it is easily able to get to internet where as in Ubuntu 12.04 I see only WPA& WPA2 Personal Ubuntu probably is not able to detect type of encryption at router

comment Ubuntu scanning internet traffic?
you need to set your lan card in promiscuous mode and then start wireshark without that your lan card wont intercept all the traffic I am assuming that you are the gateway for the entire network because if that is not the case then I am afraid it is not possible
