comment How to control internet access for each program?
@kenn I can only say that it works fine here. I would guess that you are doing something wrong when creating the rule. Not saving the rule, not making the script executable or something like that.

comment GUI tool to search files in jar
Jar files are zip files. That they are not searched by krusader is probably a measure to not flood your output with the contents of programs you want to execute. The same applies to epub. So renaming would do the trick. Here is a jar specific solution for what you want, but you will have to do a set of similar actions for all the other archive types you want to have a look into.

comment Fingerprint Ubuntu 12.04 on Lenovo B570
First I do not really know anything about it, because my fingerprint reader worked out of the box (and I have no use for this). But nobody will be able to help you if you do not tell which model it is (have you loaded the appropriate kernel module?) and what error message you are seeing.

You should first find out what model of fingerprint reader you have. Try to find number and type from sudo lspci (or sudo lsusb).

comment Steam through WINE; nothing happens after login
@LuisAlvarado Could you please explain how this is a duplicate of the "question" you selected? While your answer there is a nice overview that everybody with problems should have read, it is very general and does not really treat Steam in detail (just as an example and assuming everything works fine). This question here is instead very specific and should not be closed as a duplicate just because there is a general question about wine. Yes the answers here are general and covered in your answer, but the question is not. In my opinion the question should stay open.

Aren't both of these normal hard drives without any SSD components?

comment Do SSD/HD hybrids increase performance in Ubuntu?
Thank you for the answer. My laptop is beyond revivability. I am looking for a new one and have the option to replace a 7200rpm HDD with a (larger) SSHD drive which has only 5400rpm but 8GB of flash memory. So 20% may be less than what I lose from the slower hard drive. Did your HDD have more rpm than the SSHD that was 20-30% faster or was this parameter identical?

@user68186 Yes, I am talking about a single physical drive. Inmy case it would be a notebook drive, so there would not even be enough space for two separate drives.
