"If a man is offered a fact which goes against his instincts, he will scrutinize it closely, and unless the evidence is overwhelming, he will refuse to believe it. If, on the other hand, he is offered something which affords a reason for acting in accordance to his instincts, he will accept it even on the slightest evidence."

comment Fully automatic updates in Kubuntu
@BlaXpirit: I haven't had time, but a Google search with 'apt-get update script automate' just now turned up some pages that may be useful. This page was the first result. Take a look at the section entitled "Advanced Alternative: Automatic Weekly Package Updates Using Cron And Apt-Get". That may be of use to you.

You can also often read the man. It'll appear near the bottom. E.g. man rsync --> "This man page is current for version 2.6.9 of rsync."

I can't tell from those logs, so excuse me if I'm missing something, but have you ensured that the sound chipset is enabled in BIOS?

comment How to connect via aftp?
+1 - Installing netatalk is the way to go here. As an added bonus, you can enter into a terminal $ sudo apt-get install avahi-daemon. "Avahi allows programs to publish and discover services and hosts running on a local network with no specific configuration." This is known as Bonjour in OS X. avahi-daemon allows your AFP shares to show up as Bonjour shares in OS X.

comment How do I erase/format a harddisk from a live CD?
Damn. OK, another option that I like is to use a GParted Live CD. If this thing can't delete a partition table then the next step is to get something like, for example, the Western Digital Diagnostics disk to write 0's to the whole disk. NB: This can also be achieved using the dd command in a terminal.

If they're NTFS or FAT32 partitions, then yes, Vista can natively use them. If they're anything else you'd need a workaround. The problem with having eight partitions though is that Windows will accept only four primary partitions. I don't know how interchangeable logical partitions are with extended partitions. It's probably best to back-up the data and reformat to Windows native file systems.

I'll take a look for a good script today if I get the time. There are plenty out there.

There are some scripts floating around on the net. I'd suggest googling 'apt-get update', 'script', 'automate' and see what that gives you.
