comment How to connect via aftp?
+1 - Installing netatalk is the way to go here. As an added bonus, you can enter into a terminal $ sudo apt-get install avahi-daemon. "Avahi allows programs to publish and discover services and hosts running on a local network with no specific configuration." This is known as Bonjour in OS X. avahi-daemon allows your AFP shares to show up as Bonjour shares in OS X.

comment How do I erase/format a harddisk from a live CD?
Damn. OK, another option that I like is to use a GParted Live CD. If this thing can't delete a partition table then the next step is to get something like, for example, the Western Digital Diagnostics disk to write 0's to the whole disk. NB: This can also be achieved using the dd command in a terminal.

If they're NTFS or FAT32 partitions, then yes, Vista can natively use them. If they're anything else you'd need a workaround. The problem with having eight partitions though is that Windows will accept only four primary partitions. I don't know how interchangeable logical partitions are with extended partitions. It's probably best to back-up the data and reformat to Windows native file systems.

I'll take a look for a good script today if I get the time. There are plenty out there.

There are some scripts floating around on the net. I'd suggest googling 'apt-get update', 'script', 'automate' and see what that gives you.

comment How can I reduce the Ubuntu install size to the minimum, with GUI?
--no-install-recommends is a good idea.

Actually I think my answer is incorrect here. On further thought, nohup should be used in this scenario.

I wonder if nmap (with the right options) is what you're after? Take a look here. Ctrl+F for 'timestamps' to see if it's suitable.

comment Will the TP-Link TL-WR941ND wireless router work with Ubuntu 11.04?
What I mean to say is, a wireless router shouldn't be a problem per se. Perhaps there may be some issues with the USB adapter but not necessarily. We'd need to find out what chipset is in the USB adapter. Can you give me a model number for that part? Googling TL-WR941ND only turns up the router itself for me.

It looks like that module is blacklisted on your system. You'd need to uncomment it out (remove the proceeding #) in the /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf file to allow it to be loaded. You may wish to make a back-up of /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf first by doing $ sudo cp /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf.bak. This can be reversed by doing $ sudo cp /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf.bak /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf.

I can't see why it would auto-unmount in this situation but I'm interested to find out.
