"If a man is offered a fact which goes against his instincts, he will scrutinize it closely, and unless the evidence is overwhelming, he will refuse to believe it. If, on the other hand, he is offered something which affords a reason for acting in accordance to his instincts, he will accept it even on the slightest evidence."

--no-install-recommends is a good idea.

Actually I think my answer is incorrect here. On further thought, nohup should be used in this scenario.

I wonder if nmap (with the right options) is what you're after? Take a look here. Ctrl+F for 'timestamps' to see if it's suitable.

comment Will the TP-Link TL-WR941ND wireless router work with Ubuntu 11.04?
What I mean to say is, a wireless router shouldn't be a problem per se. Perhaps there may be some issues with the USB adapter but not necessarily. We'd need to find out what chipset is in the USB adapter. Can you give me a model number for that part? Googling TL-WR941ND only turns up the router itself for me.

It looks like that module is blacklisted on your system. You'd need to uncomment it out (remove the proceeding #) in the /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf file to allow it to be loaded. You may wish to make a back-up of /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf first by doing $ sudo cp /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf.bak. This can be reversed by doing $ sudo cp /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf.bak /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf.

I can't see why it would auto-unmount in this situation but I'm interested to find out.

I put Lubuntu 11.04 on an old netbook I had lying around and I must say I'm quite impressed. Nice little distro.

comment Ubuntu on MacBook Pro
@TK Kocheran: That's fair enough. I note that WLAN on the slightly older MacBook Pros under Lucid 10.04.1, not the vanilla 10.04 is noted as "works, with remarks". Lucid is still pretty good IMHO. I have at least one machine here running it.

This doesn't answer your question but would you consider using the B43 module? Does that even work?

I found this exact same behaviour. Well, I was running a Live CD session, but apart from that, I know exactly what you're talking about.

I thought this was, sorry. Always has been a general thing in the past. This post is marked as 'solved' for what it's worth. Hope it's some help.
