comment Dual Monitor resolution doesn't work.
Very likely to be the converter. I saw this happen to somebody on IRC the other day. The fix is to write the monitor refresh rates in xorg.conf.

Connect to the internet in the live session, then chroot into the install to repair it. See help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCdRecovery

Also, I'm assuming that you don't really want to revert to Gtk2 indicators, because you get Gtk3 indicators by default in Trusty and the Gtk2 ones will no longer work at all. The development work you installed in Saucy is now the default (but fixed up).

comment What is the meaning of 'i686' in Ubuntu?
There is no standard definition of "i686". It has been used to describe everything from P6 architecture (which includes CPUs that can no longer run Ubuntu), "Pentium II and above" by Ubuntu, and up to "Atom/Core2 or above" by other distributions.
