comment Ubuntu 14.04 hangs at “[2.688088] Switched to clocksource tsc” (Intel Pentium 4)
Go back to 12.04 and see if that works? Then try upgrading?

comment Valid SSH command to create a RAID5?
See the docs for the --assume-clean option, which the OP included in the command. linux.die.net/man/8/mdadm The command has a chance of being valid, if what he uses has the options exactly indentical to the command that orignally created the array with the same drive order, chunk size and so on.

comment Valid SSH command to create a RAID5?
BTW, yes this may be a valid command to rebuild a RAID5 volume. No idea if it is the write command to re-build your volume, which I am guessing you are trying to recover.

@davidbaumann the use of --assume-clean shouldn't result in any data being overwritten other than the RAID configuration.

comment How to check hard disk performance
The /tmp filesystem is often using a ramdisk these days. So writing to /tmp would seem to be testing your memory, not your disk subsystem.

It isn't hard, if you simply accept that what you want doesn't exist.

comment Installing 12.04 server as a software RAID 1 mirror fails to boot
Not sure I follow your question here. If Grub is installed to the MBR then the boot flags simply shouldn't matter at all.

comment always purge on remove in package
Can you elaborate more on what is going wrong? Is it perhaps a crontab or something erroring when the binary is missing? You should add logic to your crontabs or anything else to only run if the package is actually installed.

comment install Ubuntu12.04 with ISO file using grub in usb disk
If you downloaded the kernel/initrd from installer-amd64 why do you think you need the iso? Why do you think you need the boot=install, and iso-scan options? I don't really understand what you are trying to do here.

comment Trying to setup multiple primary partitions on Ubuntu linux
The boot flag is mostly meaningless. You are almost certainly running GRUB which is installed to the MBR. The boot flag only matters if you have the old MS-DOS style boot loader.

comment How does apt-get/aptitude update determine what package lists to update?
How do you suggest that the ETags would get updated in a way that applies to all web servers? Keep in mind, that not everybody is running Apache, you need a extremely basic web server to support APT repositories.

comment How does apt-get/aptitude update determine what package lists to update?
The suggestion to 'touch' things isn't a proposed 'fix'. It is a hacky work-around. A much better work-around is suggested, use a HTTP proxy.

comment Where Can I Download the Apt Package if apt-get is Missing?
Have you tried running the commands as root, or via sudo? The errors you get are unusual, but unless you can't install things unless are root. If you still can't run apt as root, then you have seriously done something evil on your system.
