comment Can't install ubuntu-desktop after removing unity-scope-*
@DavidFoerster I've added the output of the command. I've ran sudo apt-get update and upgrade multiple times. I've also reset my /etc/apt/sources.list to use only main and universe (also added to question).

I did, it shows ubuntu-desktop as broken so it can't do anything.

I've tried that. Unity is installed fine. I believe the problem is that ubuntu-desktop is not and cannot be installed.

@Tim I did try that, and the first error listed above is from sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop.

For gnome-desktop-item-edit, you will have to install gnome-panel: apt-get install gnome-panel.

comment Unity doesn't appear after installing Nvidia drivers
For me, installing Linux headers without reinstalling nvidia-current worked.

comment could not calculate the upgrade, what happened?
For me this was shoing about 25 broken packages, many of which looked like system packages. Jake's answer, on the other hand, showed a single misbehaving package. After uninstalling it, I could upgrade without problems.
