I've grown up with computers around me my whole life. I started programming when I was a kid, and stuck with it ever since. I came across Linux around 1999 and have enjoyed working with it ever since.

For a job, I get to write software that runs on embedded Linux devices. I do everything from working on low-level drivers to writing shell scripts and even web apps.

comment How can I put the top panel on the bottom of screen?
What are you asking? It seems like you need to ask several questions - if so, please create separate questions. Also, please fix the title.

comment How do I install the latest stable version of Firefox?
This would be more helpful if you explain what those do; it's bad form to give a sudo command without explanation.

comment How do I recover from upgrading while using bad version of gcc/binutils?
Already done; I was about to do that anyway, until I actually found what the problem was. I'm hoping I don't have to reinstall. By the way, the bad gcc was my own fault: it came from some cross-compiling suite that screwed things up.

comment Automatically sync a folder to a USB when USB is plugged in?
I did this myself for a while. .autorun worked in previous versions, but not with last several versions of Ubuntu. I haven't found a suitable replacement yet.

comment Problem manipulating text using grep
@moata_u I expected that to be a problem, which is why XMLStarlet would be good to look at. It's an XML tool that makes parsing this stuff much more robust.

It's likely your script didn't work because 'log4j' occurs twice in the section of interest. I've tested my solution and it works for the example provided.
