Thanks, but I had done this already. Anyway, if I'm not mistaken, the environment variables defined in bashrc are not used by nautilus/gnome, unless the applications are launched in terminal mode...

@Christopher, The modifications to my PATH environment variable are there, but LD_LIBRARY_PATH seems to be missing.

@Christopher, I know of no way to tell whether those environment variables are accessible to Ubuntu (i.e., to an application launched from the Applications menu). The env variables don't seem to be accessible, which is why my application fails to start from the menu. How do I check if they are accessible??

comment What native games are available?
FreeCiv needs a good UI revamp - whenever I tried playing this game I just stopped after a few turns because I couldn't bear the controls. They are no longer on par with the latest installments in the Civilization series.

I never liked that option because it requires me to use root for all file creation, modification, etc.

I'd add to that list, Learn Python the Hard Way, which is by programming examples, the only good way to learn a language in my opinion. Don't mistake yourself however, it is indeed for beginner programmers, starting with the installation of python ,etc. Also free. learnpythonthehardway.org

Although a nice game, I think it's sad this is number one, I don't think it's that nice and more of a casual game, offering no story-line whatsoever.

Any chance for a script that just clears the buffer instead of cancelling all selections?
