Haven't heard of a single player version. For that there would need to be a hero AI, which doesn't exist at the moment. You can play by yourself to practice, but there won't be any heroes other than yourself.

comment Installing nvidia drivers causes computer to boot to command prompt
I have also installed bumblebee successfully on my laptop not more than 2 days ago. First time I ever got my nvidia card rendering anything under Linux, much thanks to the bumblebee guys for that. Gotta watch out and make sure you are running a stable version though, as at first I got unlucky and installed a bugged version that kind of destroyed my setup.

Not really. I read a report somewhere that, by blacklisting the intel driver and installing the nvidia one, you could boot using nvidia's proprietary drivers, but has never worked for me. Best thing I managed to do was turn off the nvidia card using vga switcheroo. There is information about that and more on : linux-hybrid-graphics.blogspot.com. I subscribed to their mailing list and am following progresses.

Adding the lib folder in ld.so.conf.d works, but I don't have admin rights on this machine (I know, eww).

Thanks, but I had done this already. Anyway, if I'm not mistaken, the environment variables defined in bashrc are not used by nautilus/gnome, unless the applications are launched in terminal mode...

@Christopher, The modifications to my PATH environment variable are there, but LD_LIBRARY_PATH seems to be missing.

@Christopher, I know of no way to tell whether those environment variables are accessible to Ubuntu (i.e., to an application launched from the Applications menu). The env variables don't seem to be accessible, which is why my application fails to start from the menu. How do I check if they are accessible??

It doesn't seem to work. I still get the applet.

comment What native games are available?
FreeCiv needs a good UI revamp - whenever I tried playing this game I just stopped after a few turns because I couldn't bear the controls. They are no longer on par with the latest installments in the Civilization series.
