comment Full disk encryption - separate home partition
Files on '/' will not need to be encrypted. These files start up the system, applications and system wide configuration. It will be unnecessary to hide them, because they come with every distro. System configuration is more than likely harmless for people to view. If you don't want people to see your applications, then do not install them from the repos, instead install the executable to your home directory and they will be encrypted. If you do that you may have to get the source code, and compile them on your own. Little learning to do there, but not too difficult.

comment Is Ubuntu a distro with Nautilus included?
The goal seems to be a usb install, not a full install. A dual install is more time consuming than to use a live disk to facilitate a usb install, which is safer for a newbie and less time to achieve.

comment Is Ubuntu a distro with Nautilus included?
First, 'a working linux distro' may be a live one, with nautilus. I addressed that. Secondly, the goal seems to be to create a usb install. A live disk can facilitate this, and is a safer method that committing to a full install since this person is obviously a newbie to Linux.

comment How do I install development tools for 12.10?
Ubuntu will not get confused. Ubuntu is just a bunch of files and directories on a storage disk. When one is being accessed to be written, it locked down, so no confusion can happen. Several people reading the same thing can't hurt, everyone just takes turns. All the rest is applications that fill live memory. That can't create confusion because they can't enter each other's space in live memory. Things could get slow, because everyone needs a little push by the processor and there is only so much push per second, but that's it.

comment Start Up Terminal With Command; Then Go To Bash Shell
laurent, I was not able to get it to work without those quotes. I have edited the gnome menu command shortcut. I've always had trouble with shortcuts parsing different than the command line parses. All this extra parenthesis.
