comment How do I get the Skype status icon back? (on panel/tray)
Thank you for providing the commands b/c when I open DConf editor I don't see a Panel option under Unity. This worked well for me after I also installed sni-qt (not sure that was required).

comment Run Win7 Guest (raw disk) in Ubuntu (which was installed as Dual Boot on existing Win7)
Thanks for the ideas. I've gotten past this but it has been a journey. I'm not 100% yet -- getting a BSOD when booting into windows but I have some ideas for that I will try this week. I will post an answer with reference websites and instructions when I'm done.

I'm not sure this is the case. In fact, I'm starting to wonder if there is some "feature" (perhaps Ramdisk?) used because I installed while running windows as a Ubuntu/Windows dual boot install.

Thanks, read the question but it doesn't explain why I would get 1.2 MB transfer rates when I can do the equivalent operation on my windows machine at 100MB.

Thanks but that's not the issue in this case. I did as you suggested but still get a blank screen.

comment How do I fix a “Wireless is disabled by hardware switch” error?
This is why Linux fails to hit a bigger audience... stupidity like this. I run dual boot. In Ubuntu I was able to accidentally disable my wireless hardware completely... it wouldn't even reenable in windows -- so I changed something below the OS abstraction. Seriously? I event spent $30 on a USB wireless trying to fix this. Linux, I loath you but love you too. Thank you @Luca for this solution to my problem. Give me your address and I'll send you this Micro USB Wireless device.
